FFCC as a Counseling Center
Since 1985, we have offered affortable, high-quality counseling services to residents
of Fresno County and the surrounding area. We play a critical role to ensure those
who would otherwise be underserved by an overburdened mental health care system recieve
competent therapeutic care.
FFCC provides individual, couple, family, child and group counseling sessions for
a wide range of mental health issues and concerns, including parenting and anger management
classes. Our capacity for services has been expanding and we now provide over 10,000
sessions annually.
Services offered include counseling to court-ordered individuals and groups– primarily
anger management, co-parenting and mandated individual counseling– in English and
Spanish. Other languages, such as Hmong, Armenian and Punjabi, are available depending
on our students.
FFCC as a Training Center
We provide highly structured, intensely supervised training for the Marriage, Family and Child Counseling Program at Fresno State. FFCC partially fulfills the requirements for this degree program
and its national accrediting body (Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and
Related Education Programs, or CACREP), and licensure requirements for the State of
California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Each year, 88 graduate students gain hands-on experience providing services to clients.
Our students in advanced practicum and internship courses serve as counselors under
the supervision of a licensed faculty member. Sessions are viewed and supervised by
the licensed faculty member and other marriage and family therapy trainees. Feedback
is recorded and given to students verbally mid-session and after the session to ensure
continuous growth of both our students and clients.
Two-thirds of our clientele are at or below the Federal Poverty Level. We do NOT take
insurance because our therapist-trainees are all students and cannot bill insurance.
That’s why we make sessions affordable – about the price of a co-pay! For most clients, the typical fee is $60. A sliding scale structure from $40-$10
is offered as needed.
FFCC as a Community Partner
We are committed to serving the diverse community of California's Central Valley through
the following collaborations with regional activities beneficial to both the community
and the university:
- Contracting to send student-counselors to provide services to many agencies in the
community such as Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission (EOC), the Fresno Mission, the Consulate of Mexico and more.
- We provide community outreach and free crisis management services when needed, such
as after the tragic 2019 mass shooting of a Hmong backyard gathering.
- We provided telehealth during the pandemic to make counseling services more accessible
and have continued to provide telehealth services upon request.
