San Joaquin Valley Mathematics Project

San Joaquin Valley Mathematics Project

Since its inception in 1989, the San Joaquin Valley Mathematics Project (SJVMP) has provided a stimulating and supportive professional home for TK-16 mathematics teachers and university faculty residing in the Central Valley of California. SJVMP activities are designed to support PreK-12 classroom teachers and preservice teachers in becoming more knowledgeable and effective instructors of mathematics.

The SJVMP offers a summer mathematics leadership institute, winter leadership retreat, free Friday evening mathematics speaker series, CGI and early childhood mathematics workshops, alumni reunions, professional development partnership opportunities with local districts, and support for mathematics education events for K-16 students.

Three grants have actively supported the mission of the SJVMP over the past several years: (a) NSF Noyce Track 3: "Mathematics Master Teacher Leaders," (b) CSU Chancellor's Office: "Enhancing the Mathematics Content Knowledge of PreK-5 Teachers in the Central San Joaquin Valley," and (c) Mathematics Professional Learning Partnership.

Contact Director Kelli Statham (Kstatham@fcoe.org) for information about professional development partnership opportunities (e.g., CGI, Building Thinking Clasrooms) proven to maximize student thinking, engagement, and achievement. SJVMP offers district partners content-intensive workshops, primarily in the summer and other non-contract periods, as well as follow-up instruction (in-class coaching, lesson study, and math labs) during the academic year.
