Since its inception in 1989, the San Joaquin Valley Mathematics Project (SJVMP) has provided a stimulating and supportive professional home for TK-16 mathematics
teachers and university faculty residing in the Central Valley of California. The
SJVMP offers a summer mathematics leadership institute, winter leadership retreat,
administrator appreciation dinner, free Friday evening mathematics speaker series
(includes dinner), CGI and early childhood mathematics workshops, alumni reunions
at CMC conferences, partnership opportunities with local districts, and support for
mathematics education events for K-12 students. SJVMP activities are designed to support
PreK-12 teachers in becoming more knowledgeable and effective instructors of mathematics.
SJVMP supports the early professional growth of preservice math teachers as well.
Fresno State students are invited to participate in SJVMP-supported events, as well
as Fresno State's Math Circle and Sonia Kovalevsky Day. Two recently-funded grants
actively support the mission of the SJVMP: (a) NSF Noyce Track 3: "Mathematics Master
Teacher Leaders" and (b) CSU Chancellor's Office: "Enhancing the Mathematics Content
Knowledge of PreK-5 Teachers in the Central San Joaquin Valley."
