Mathematics and Science Teacher Initiative
Meet The Team
Dr. Swati Mehta
Dr. Swati Mehta is the Director of the Math and Science Teacher Initiative. As an Assistant Professor of Liberal Studies at Fresno State University, and a queer immigrant scholar of color, she explores critical issues of race, gender, class, and justice in STEM education. Her work focuses on fostering equitable computer science participation by building teacher capacity at the K-12 level, enhancing faculty’s ability to integrate computing with culturally sustaining pedagogies, and developing school-community partnerships centered on the experiences of historically marginalized communities. She has collaborated on culturally relevant computing curricula and has received the NSF-funded CADRE 2023 fellowship. Dr. Mehta is also actively involved in several education-focused journals.
Garrett Main
Garrett Main is the Outreach Coordinator at Fresno State, where he has been dedicated
to serving students across the valley for over a decade. He holds a Master’s degree

time with his wife, Kate, and their two daughters, and loves hiking and exploring
the mountains.

Teacher Initiative here at Fresno State. Adrian facilitates events and outreach to
help cultivate a positive experience for prospective math and science teachers both
