California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Mission
To ensure integrity, relevance, and high quality in the preparation, certification,
and discipline of the educators who serve all of California's diverse students.
California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Vision
All of California's students, preschool through grade 12, are inspired and prepared
to achieve their highest potential by well prepared and exceptionally qualified educators.
About the Commission
The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is an agency in the Executive Branch
of California State Government. It was created in 1970 by the Ryan Act and is the
oldest of the autonomous state standards boards in the nation. The major purpose of
the agency is to serve as a state standards board for educator preparation for the
public schools of California, the licensing and credentialing of professional educators
in the State, the enforcement of professional practices of educators, and the discipline
of credential holders in the State of California.
In addition, the SNSC program works to align with the California Department of Education (CDE) mandates as well as state and local directives that impact health and wellness. An example would be school directives in 2020-2021 for COVID-19 contact tracing, monitoring and support; and vision screening requirements for California students among other health mandates.
