AAQEP Accreditation 2022

Standard 2 Aspect C

Standard 2c: Create productive learning environments, and use strategies to develop productive learning environments in a variety of school contexts.

Results from 3 instruments (Evaluation of Field Placement Student, Candidate Disposition, and Site Supervisor Program Evaluation/Feedback ) help us to understand that our completers are effectively creating learning environments, and use strategies to develop productive learning environments in a variety of school contexts..

Data Sources & Analysis:

Data Source 1

Counselor Disposition Assessment (Full Survey, Data Set, n=44):
Field practice site supervisors rate completers based on their field practice at different school districts or programs serving primary and secondary pupils. Site supervisors rate completers on the following items based on their observations and by using the following ratings: 0= not observed; 1=inadequate; 2=meet expectations; 3=exceed expectations.

Perspective Captured from Data Source: Field practice site supervisors

Rationale for using Data Source:
Although these evaluations take place while candidates are still in the credential program, we believe that assessing them in these key areas prepares them to draw on the knowledge and skills they develop once they enter the field.

Specific Elements of Data Source:
The following items demonstrate candidates’ ability to create productive learning environments:

  1. Utilizes assessment data to adjust counseling approaches, consultation practices, or program implementation.
  2. Counselor work indicates an ability to identify problems and solutions.

Definition of Success:
Candidates are considered successful if they receive ratings of 2 or 3.  If they receive a 0, that means the site supervisor didn’t get a chance to observe their abilities in that category.

Displays of Analyzed Data:

Analyzed Data

Interpretation of Data:
Data from the 2021 disposition assessment indicate that, overall, field practice site supervisors believe completers are able to critically assess, using data and changing modalities and interventions when needed.  The data also shows that site supervisors believe our students are able to identify problems and create solutions to ensure the success of K12 pupils.

Data Source 2

Evaluation of Field Placement Student
(Data Set for Spring 2021)

Perspective: Site supervisors rate the completers on their knowledge and skills.

Rationale for using Data Source:
Although these evaluations take place while candidates are still in the credential program, we believe that assessing them in these key areas prepares them to draw on the knowledge and skills they develop once they enter the field.

Specific Elements of Data Source:
Six items relevant to Standard 2c were selected. These include:

  • Item 1: Understand and use data and information systems on student learning and environment.
  • Item 4: Understand and use school technologies for information access, teaching, and learning.
  • Item 5: Understand and use tests and measures used in assessing student learning and achievement, development of school, family, and community partnerships.
  • Item 15: Have knowledge of interventions and resources needed to assist students in transitions and adjusting to different situations that may impact academic achievement.
  • Item 17: Understand and apply approaches that recognize the importance of building on students’ strengths and assets as a foundation for supporting all students.
  • Item 24: Model and demonstrate essential counseling skills and multicultural awareness in group counseling within psycho-educational and/or psycho-analytic frameworks to address root causes and underlying issues impeding student achievement, including building rapport, showing empathy, and providing non-judgmental support to students.

Definition of Success:
Receiving a rating of 3 or 4 (yellow or green).

Displays of Analyzed Data:

Analyzed Data

Interpretation of Data:
This data set evaluates completers’ knowledge of using data, technologies, assessments, various resources, the strengths of students, and group counseling to improve and create learning environments. Most of our students are rated highly, with 95% or 50 out of 52 rated as performing moderately or very satisfactory according to the site supervisors.

Next Steps:
Findings from the two data sources indicate that our completers are, overall, well-prepared to create productive learning environments once they leave our program.

Moving forward, our next step is to create a measure to evaluate the perspective of completers who are now in the field on their ability to create productive learning environments and how well the program prepared them. Additionally, because data are now collected electronically, we will be able to engage in more systematic analysis of results, comparing responses across cohorts of candidates for both the counselor disposition assessment and field placement evaluations.
