AAQEP Accreditation 2022

Standard 4 Aspect B

Standard 4b: The program is committed to and invests in strengthening and improving the education profession and the P-20 education system. Each program’s context (or multiple contexts) provides particular opportunities to engage the field’s shared challenges and to foster and support innovation. Engagement with critical issues is essential and must be contextualized. Sharing results of contextualized engagement and innovation supports the field’s collective effort to address education’s most pressing challenges through improvement and innovation.

Recruitment Efforts:
The Reading/Literacy program primarily focuses its recruitment efforts with local school districts. Additionally, to meet and recruit a diverse pool of teacher-candidates, in 2020 the program coordinator visited classes in the Multiple Subject program with candidates who were nearing the end of their program. This is an area the program still needs to work on and will continue to meet and discuss ways of recruiting candidates who are representative of regional K-12 schools.

Support Efforts:
The program offers a number of supports for candidates from application to enrollment to graduation (see Appendix C: Staff Support and Appendix C: Support Services). Additionally, the fully online program supports students ability to take classes while they teach and the cohort model the program follows supports candidates, as all candidates take classes together.
