Appendix D: Internal Quality Control System

Reading/Literacy Specialist Credential

Recruitment: Admissions: Advising: Monitoring: Final Clinical Placement: Completion Check:  Completer Follow-Up:
Student visited the program website. Did not attend any recruitment events or meetings Program admission include a copy of CalState Apply confirmation as proof of application, unofficial transcripts, a minimum GPA of 2.75 in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted and a minimum of 2.75 GPA on an post baccalaureate coursework, a complete statement of purpose stating the applicant’s short term and long term professional goals, three letters of recommendation and recommendation rubrics, meeting the writing competency requirement, and (for the Specialist Credential only) evidence of passing the CBEST Student received standard advising from the program coordinator providing information on deadlines and on the comprehensive exam

Passing all program required courses (LEE 213, LEE 278, LEE 224, LEE 215, LEE 230, LEE 244, LEE 234, LEE 254)

Completing the Advancement to Candidacy Form

Passing the comprehensive exam - Student passed all questions on the comprehensive exam the first time

 

Fieldwork was completed in the candidate’s own classroom with the exception of LEE 234 in Fall 2020. Due to the pandemic, the candidate did not have students in-school, so the candidate worked with a coworker’s daughter for the case study assignment in LEE 234

Credential Analyst was provided a list of candidates who completed all the required coursework for the specialist credential. 

When student applies for the specialist credential, the Credential Analyst will email the program coordinator for verification the requirements were met. 


Credential analyst will also very required employment.

 

Candidates complete the program exit survey prior to the program coordinator signing off on the candidate’s degree clearance form

Year+ survey will be sent to completer once they are a year out from completing their program.

Student completed their credential through CalState Teach and wanted to continue their education at Fresno State Program admission include a copy of CalState Apply confirmation as proof of application, unofficial transcripts, a minimum GPA of 2.75 in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted and a minimum of 2.75 GPA on an post baccalaureate coursework, a complete statement of purpose stating the applicant’s short term and long term professional goals, three letters of recommendation and recommendation rubrics, meeting the writing competency requirement, and (for the Specialist Credential only) evidence of passing the CBEST Student communicated regularly with the program coordinator and faculty through email, in-person, and via Zoom. Student reported these advising and mentoring meetings supported their success in the program.

Student heard about the program through a district communication and attended a pre-admission meeting prior to application. Program admission include a copy of CalState Apply confirmation as proof of application, unofficial transcripts, a minimum GPA of 2.75 in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted and a minimum of 2.75 GPA on an post baccalaureate coursework, a complete statement of purpose stating the applicant’s short term and long term professional goals, three letters of recommendation and recommendation rubrics, meeting the writing competency requirement, and (for the Specialist Credential only) evidence of passing the CBEST

In the beginning of the candidate’s program, there was a miscommunication and the student did not take a required course in the first semester. This error was not caught until later when the student was submitted the Advancement to Candidacy paperwork. At this point the student and program coordinator made a plan to make sure the student completed the program.

Student received advising with the program coordinator via email.

 

Passing all program required courses (LEE 213, LEE 278, LEE 224, LEE 215, LEE 230, LEE 244) This student participated in the San Joaquin Valley Writing Project Summer Institute and used this as an opportunity to substitute the Summer Institute for two courses (LEE 234 and LEE 254) of the program

Passing the comprehensive exam - Student only passed one (of three) questions on the comprehensive exam the first time. Student received feedback and passed the other two questions on the retake

Student researched programs that offered the California Reading/Literacy Leadership Credential as an online program. Student was not recruited and did not attend any pre-admission meetings or events Program admission include a copy of CalState Apply confirmation as proof of application, unofficial transcripts, a minimum GPA of 2.75 in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted and a minimum of 2.75 GPA on an post baccalaureate coursework, a complete statement of purpose stating the applicant’s short term and long term professional goals, three letters of recommendation and recommendation rubrics, meeting the writing competency requirement, and (for the Specialist Credential only) evidence of passing the CBEST Student received standard advising from the program coordinator providing information on deadlines and on the comprehensive exam

Student met the fieldwork requirements by working with students at their school but not own classroom students. Student did some fieldwork via their Reading Recovery training which was outside of the teaching day. For the small group instruction class, Student  was not a regular classroom teacher at the time (literacy coach instead), so student worked  worked with students at their school site.
