Michael Mahoney is an Assistant Professor of Special Education at California State University, Fresno. Prior to his position at Fresno State, Michael was a high school special education teacher in La Quinta, California teaching science and history.

During his time as a high school teacher, Michael particularly became interested in inclusive practices to support the academic achievement of students with specific learning needs. Currently, his research is in the area of secondary special education and applying evidence-based strategies to support students in large secondary classroom settings.

Michael was selected as a 2017-2018 Doctoral Student Scholar with the Council for Exceptional Children, Division of Research, and was selected for the 2018 Haring Family Endowed Fellowship for his dissertation on supporting the academic achievement of secondary students with autism in general education classrooms.
