Jonathan Pryor (he/him/his) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, teaching in
the Higher Education Administration & Leadership Program (HEAL). He also is a core
faculty member in the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership.
Dr. Pryor's scholarship primarily explores topics related to LGBTQ+ equity in higher
education, the field of LGBTQ+ Student Affairs, leadership in education, campus climate,
and the experiences of LGBTQ+ college students. His research has been published in a number of scholarly and professional journals,
including the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, Journal of College Student Development,
the Journal of Student Affairs Research & Practice, and the Journal of LGBT Youth.
Prior to his appointment at Fresno State, Dr. Pryor worked in the field of Higher
Education Student Affairs for 10 years, with much of his work spent managing the LGBTQIA
Programs & Services at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His leadership for
university LGBTQ+ programs has been recognized by Campus Pride and the American College
Personnel Association’s Coalition for Sexuality and Gender Identities.
Currently, Dr. Pryor serves as Vice-President of the LGBTQ+Allies Faculty/Staff Network,
coordinator of the Fresno State Rainbow Graduation committee, and assisted with the
development and creation of the Out At Fresno State video series as part of the President's
CAIFE initiative. He also provides service to other areas of campus (Faculty Senate
Research Subcommittee; Cross-Cultural and Gender Center LGBTQ+ programs) and in the
Kremen School of Education and Human Development.
He is involved with numerous Higher Education Student Affairs associations, including
the Association for the Study of Higher Education, American Education Research Association,
NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (selected as a 2019-2020
NASPA Emerging Faculty Leader), and the American College Personnel Association.
Dr. Pryor's research broadly examines LGBTQ+ equity in higher education, how LGBTQ+
students navigate college and university climates, and the role of staff toward advancing
equity and social justice.
