Dr. Schlievert teaches Advanced Curriculum Theory and Analysis; Social Contexts of
Teaching and Learning; Curriculum and Pedagogy; Understanding Children, Learning,
and Development; Introduction to Teaching, and other courses as needed. She is a
graduate advisor for master’s degree projects. She serves as Fresno State’s representative
to the California State University Academic Senate and attends meetings regularly
at the Chancellor’s Office in Long Beach. She is immediate past chair of the Statewide
Academic Affairs Committee.
Her academic degrees include an M.A. in Musicology and a doctoral degree in Educational
Leadership (UC Davis). Her dissertation was nominated for Edgar L. Morphet Dissertation
Award, presented by the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration
(NCPEA). Other academic study included Harpsichord (with the Los Angeles Philharmonic
and Grammy award recipients); Meso-American, Andean, Oceanic, and African art history;
Hmong music; European art history; and American art. She taught university courses
in Music as Dance Accompaniment, served as an accompanist in multiple departments,
performed on the Today Show, and composed music for dance performances.
Prior to her tenure at Fresno State, Dr. Schlievert taught fifth grade, U. S. history,
sixth grade, world history, math, and choir. She served as a resource teacher, program
manager, guidance instructional specialist, vice-principal, and acting principal.
She was a representative for the School-to-Career Task Force.
Dr. Schlievert is active in the education community. In addition to school outreach,
