Courses Taught
I was the Executive Director of a Mental Health Agency in Santa Clara County and Clinical Director in another agency. I came to Fresno State in 1996 as an assistant professor and received “early promotion” to associate professor in 2000. I earned full professor in 2010. During my time at Fresno State, I worked for the Provost for 8 years as Director of the First Year Experience, and, Director of the Mentoring Institute. I was Program Coordinator of the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential program for 7 years, and Chairperson of the Department of Counselor Education & Rehabilitation for 4 years. During this time, I was elected to the Governing Board of the American Psychological Association, I served as an Accreditation Reviewer for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and through it all I was very happy.
I have written articles that were peer and “blind” reviewed in the fields of multicultural issues in counseling, domestic violence, mentoring, and immigration. I wrote a book on genocide, and I have written essays for the Fresno Bee and the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. I presented at 37 international, national, and statewide conferences. I have served on 18 University Committees, 9 KSOEHD Committees, and, 9 Department Committees. I have trained people in many school districts, I have been asked to be a keynote speaker, and, to my surprise, I have won many awards. In these years I have never been happier, and I thank my family for their support and my hope is that they all are as happy as I.
