U.S. Constitution Requirement Guide

Applicants to the credential program must meet the U.S. Constitution requirement by taking a course equivalent or by passing an approved exam. This requirement proves that the applicant has an understanding of the U.S. Constitution.

Step 1: Determine Whether You Meet the Requirement

Step 1A.

  • Locate your institution below and check your transcripts to see if you have taken one of these courses and received a C or better.
  • If you have taken a course below and received a C or better, you will meet this requirement and may proceed to Step 2.
  • If you have not taken a course below and/or you have not received a C or better, please proceed to Step 1B.

Step 1B.

  • If you have not met the requirement above, you can choose one of the three options below:
    • Pass the U.S. Constitution Exam offered by Notre Dame de Namur University.
      Notre Dame de Namur Exam
    • Pass the U.S. Constitution Exam offered by Fresno State.
      Fresno State Exam
    • Enroll in a U.S. Constitution course from the list in Step 1A. and receive a C or better in the course.

Step 2: Program Application Attachment

  • If you meet the requirement by course or you are currently in-progress with a course, please attach an unofficial transcript to your Program Application.
  • If you meet the requirement by exam, please attach a Certificate of Completion to your Program Application.

U.S. Constitution Requirement Troubleshooting

  • If you have taken a course that is not on our list, and it has a similar catalog description to courses that are on our list, please send an unofficial transcript to kremencredapp@mail.fresnostate.edu ahead of applying to the program. Credential Admissions can confirm whether or not the course will be accepted.
