Multiple Subject Credential
The Multiple Subject credential program at Fresno State is for students who want to become kindergarten or elementary school teachers, K-8. Our nationally accredited and award-winning program prepares candidates to teach elementary school in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Pathways to Earning Your Credential
We provide unique experiences that help credential candidates become more closely connected to students and educators in local school districts. Our dedicated district partnerships are essential in producing quality teachers. Students can earn a Multiple Subject or Dual Credential through:
- Traditional (evening classes)
- Teacher Internship
- Teacher Residency
- Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP)
Applicants must be subject matter competent and have met the California basic skills requirement prior to admission. Credential programs are in-person, and coursework must be completed within 5 years.

Program Options
Earned in two semesters, holders of the Multiple Subject Credential are authorized to teach kindergarten-8th grade.
Earn three credentials, the Multiple Subject and combined Mild/Moderate Support Needs and Extensive Support Needs Credentials in four semesters.
Simultaneously, add the Spanish or Hmong Bilingual Authorization Program (BAP), which authorizes teaching in bilingual/dual-emersion classrooms.
